EGAP Learning Days 12

EGAP is holding a Learning Days workshop in Addis Ababa this coming spring, hosted by the International Food Policy Research Institute and International Livestock Research Institute. This workshop is a 5-day intensive aimed at introducing and developing familiarity with experimental research methods in the social sciences for principal investigators (PIs) in sub-Saharan Africa. It will take place from March 30-April 3, 2020. This workshop is part of EGAP’s efforts to develop researcher capacity worldwide on methods for rigorous evaluation of governance and development policies. The workshop is intended for Africa-based researchers and evaluation professionals working in academic, non-governmental, and governmental organizations who carry out analyses related to governance and development. Ideal attendees for the workshop will be scholars with prior training in social sciences and statistics, econometrics, or policy evaluation. Sessions will be conducted in English, and participants must have a professional command of the language.
The workshop will instruct on concepts and tools for experimental impact evaluations, and will include presentations of experimental research, statistical exercises (with and without statistical software), and individual advisory sessions for participants to work on developing research designs related to their organizations’ missions. Key topics include causal inference, hypothesis testing, randomization, power, and more. Accepted applicants will be expected to complete a preparatory exercise before arriving for the clinic. 
As part of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to present their research designs to EGAP researcher and institutional members on the last day of the workshop. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with EGAP members who work on similar research topics and/or in similar contexts.
EGAP will cover the financial costs of airfare to and from the workshop location, lodging (for attendees from outside Addis Ababa), breakfast/lunch/snacks at the clinic and workshop, and a celebratory dinner. Participants are responsible for other dinners, visa arrangements, and incidentals.
